JoeMadArt.com update #52
Ruined King to be released in early 2021!

Hey guys!

At last!! After more than 9 months without the smallest sketch from Joe Madureira, Riot Forge and Airship Syndicate revealed some new information about their upcoming game Ruined King: A League of Legends Story including many brand new arts by Joe!

Let's start with the official Ruined King: A League of Legends Story Announcement Trailer:

That trailer reveals a key art of the game featuring the Ruined King in addition to 6 characters from League of Legends who will be playable in the game. Miss Fortune, Illaoi, Braum, Pyke and Yasuo portraits were done by Joe Mad (lines) and colors by (Grace Liu) while the excellent Ahri was done by Hicham Habchi.

Have a look below to some bigger images of those League of Legends heroes:
Also, I invite you to read that long interview of Joe Madureira and Leanne Loomb (Head of Riot Forge) at Millenium.gg
Look, I've worked with Marvel for a number of years, with a lot of other people's IPs. There it was also crucial to find that balance between respecting the original work and at the same time finding those little twists to make it interesting. And that's how we approached this project.

-Joe

Apart all those new visuals, what else did we learn from the different comments over the internet?

- The Game will be more than ever a "Narrative driven turn-based RPG"
- The Game will be available on Nintendo Switch, PS4 and soon after on PS5 with a free upgrade from PS4 to PS5, Xbox One and soon after on the Xbox Series X|S (With the same upgrade option from the Xbox One version of the game), Steam and the Epic Games Store.
- A release date has officially been announced... well, "Early 2021" so let's assume in 2021-Q1.
- The game is single-player only
- The adventure will take place in Bilgewater and The Shadow Isles where you will have to compose a team of 3 Heroes among the 6 announced

Just to complete that update here are a few more pieces of arts.

For the record, while doing some researches I found that beautiful textless version of that iconic House of M #1 cover inked by Tim Townsend and colored by Richard Isanove.
Surprisingly I also discovered that Richard colored 2 other arts by Joe! He colored that Mortal Kombat Sorpion as well as that Sub zero. In fact that Sub zero as a cover was colored by Liquid! (So Christian Lichtner or Aron Lusen) but an alternative version was also available in the PSM magazine as a poster and that version was colored by Richard Isanove.
I was super happy to find 2 clean versions of those arts. Have a look below:
And to finish, let me share with you a line version of Prince Malchezaar (Joe removed that version from his Artstation account, thank you David Bolton for the info!) and also, 2 pieces of art done back in 2005 for Darksiders and shared this year on twitter by John Pearl:
That's all for that update but don't forget to wish a Happy Birthday to Joe since today is his birthday!

So happy birthday Joe! Stay safe and draw more please! ;)
Happy Birthday Joe Madureira

I wish you all a happy Christmas holiday season! Be safe!
