Season greetings with Darksiders!

You know how I like the Darksiders series right!?
So ending the year with an update about Darksiders is just perfect for me!
Early this year Haydn Dalton added many early concepts that Joe Mad! did for Darksiders, you can find them below plus a few others!

Have a look to his website and read/watch some good behind the scene stories about the game industry and his experience at Vigil Games!

So let's start with some art upgrades:
Note: Special mention to those 3 Darksiders 2 Death key arts. They are among my favorites and you can now look at them in HD!
Not only the resolution is now 4k (Original size is 8kpx!) but in addition the quality of the scans is sublime!

Next are some rough "Energy Sketches" Joe did for Darksiders
Joe has that epic skill to be able to draw some very powerful and badass sketches with minimalist lines! Epic!

Thor ultimate onslaught!

Just on the finish line!
Yes I know I'm very late again for this update but you know what? This is not my fault!
Everything is because of the release of Battle Chasers NightWar! I have played about 100 hours and killed more than 2300 monster... Blame Joe Madureira and the Airship Syndicate team for giving us such a great game! You can find Battle Chasers NightWar on Steam here.

Ok stop the excuses!
In honor of the recent release of Thor: Ragnarok Joe dug some "Thor" stuff he did during the past years.

Battle Chasers NightWar is live and rocks!

Yes!
After 2 long years of development Battle Chasers NightWar is officially out!
And what is even better is that the game fulfilled all his promises... and even more!
A large majority of the reviews have the same conclusion: Battle Chasers NightWar is fantastic!

Yes indeed the PS4 version suffered from a very frustrating bug but it has been corrected now.
Also the game isn't available for the Nintendo Switch yet but it's just a matter of time.
I think that all the backers can be proud of what Airship Syndicate accomplished!

All that to say that this is of course another good occasion to share with you some excellent Battle Chasers arts! ;)

First let's start with some official Battle Chasers NightWar arts plus two special "Thank you" from Joe:

I suppose that many of you are already wondering: "And what's next after Battle Chasers NightWar?"
Well you can read the answer in the interviews above:
Joe will now focus on the comic of Battle Chasers with the #10, #11 and #12 that will continue the story where the comic #9 stopped.
Joe will also work on the next game by Airship Syndicate that isn't an RPG (But rather a Metroidvania game hum?)
Anyway, nothing is set in stone yet and an another Battle Chasers game could also come sooner than later if the first one is really a success.

Pio Ravago III contribution: Darksiders!

I'm super happy to share with you some unique pieces of art that Joe Madureira did on Darksiders (and a little bit more ;))
Let me say a special and huge "thank you" to Pio Ravago III aka "Master P" for the long and very interesting chats we had as well as, of course, the arts he accepted to share with me :). Obviously that update wouldn't have been possible without his contribution!

For those who don't know, Pio is actually Principal Artist at Riot Games and also the one that did most of the textures in Darksiders!
It can be said that Pio was the #5 guy at Vigil Games back in the days after Joe Madureira, David Adams, Ryan Stefanelli and Marvin Donald.
So just those few words to let you understand that I was very honored to chat with that very kind person.

Anyway, what interest you are the arts right? So here they are.

Let's start with some humble updates of some images in "even better" resolution: Note: That epic art was colored by Pio in only 3 days! Amazing!

Note: This is the first "official" version of War. This is the version that was first presented to THQ: "War1st"

Note: I searched for a good version of that one for a very long time in vain. I can now change the poor 416 x 609px version by a nice 1094 x 1576px! :)

Here are now some new arts or alternate versions: Note: Have you ever seen that one? To be honest, I only knew until recently the official version colored by Christian Lichtner and used as the Play mag cover of August 2008. Well here is a beautiful variant by Pio Ravago III

Note: Yes! at last! Like me you've probably searched that one without finding it! Except the title this is the official cover of The Art Of Darksiders published by Udon Entertainment. The other version on the site is a variant (And I don't even know who colored it...).

Note: Another exclusive art I've never imagined I would ever find. That "texture" version is the original version that was used to create that iconic Darksiders key art that you all know! You can't imagine how happy I was when I discovered that one! :)

OK that's all for Darksiders...
But since Pio also worked with Joe on Dungeon Runners while at NCsoft he also gave me those 2 arts:
Now to wrap up this update let me say a few words about Battle Chasers NightWar:
I'm supporting that project since day 1 and after playing for more than 30 hours already on the alpha and the beta I can tell you it's worth buying it!
In less than a week now on October 3rd, more than 2 years after the official kickstarter campaign, everybody will be able to discover a beautiful, fun and epic adventure created by the talented people at Airship Syndicate!

For this occasion, Joe Madureira shared the official in game burst art for Knolan:

Battle Chasers NightWar BETA soon!

Hey!

If you red last month update, you know that the BETA of Battle Chasers NightWar will be live next week (August 29th)!
As a consequence, I decided to dedicate that update to the game and Battle Chasers in general.

So let's start with some Battle Chasers NightWar arts: Note: Indeed the concept images are old and in low resolution. As usual I hope to find some better versions later on ;)

Just in case you missed it, the official animated intro of Battle Chasers Nightwar (created by Powerhouse Animation) has been revealed this month.

I'm very please to share with you some HD image of the inked pages of Battle Chasers.
Those scans were given to me by Tom McWeeney himself! The official inker of those pages!

Arnold Tsand (Lead Character Concept Artist at Blizzard Entertainment... Just for the record, he is the one who created that formidable concept of DOOMFIST for Overwatch!) sent me some new HD versions of the arts he colored for Udon entertainment over Joe Madureira’s lines.
I'm certain you’ve never seen those pieces of art with those resolutions! :)

DragonKind Part 1

In December 2001, after the cancellation of the comic Battle Chasers #10, Joe MAdureira, Tim Donley and Greg Peterson decided to form a game development company called TriLunar Entertainment.
The only game announced was Dragon Kind. It was planed for PS2 and XBOX but was canceled in 2002 after the studio came out of business (I suppose the game didn't find any editor...). The main hero was named Grail, he had the ability to control dragons and was evolving in the world of Vermilion.

Of course Joe did many key arts and concepts for the game, here are some of them:
Note: I know some of those arts are ridiculously small but those are the best I was able to find...
and I can tell you I spent a lot of time searching for them! If you have some better versions, please share them! ;)

That being said, you may have noticed 2 of those key arts are in very big resolution!?
Yes! I got some help for those since they are simply impossible to find on internet!
Epic thanks to Arnold Tsang who colored those key arts and who accepted to share them with me!

OK now something else.
I don't know if this is related or not but following the release of Wonder Woman in theaters last month...

Joe shared on social media that beautiful concept art he did in collaboration with Grace Liu: ... "Just an exercise really" ;)

Let me use this occasion to share another beautiful Wonder Woman art Joe did a long time ago.
Personally, I searched that one for such a long time. Of course it's an old and well known art but finding it a decent resolution was impossible until just a few months ago. I was so happy when I found it, I really love that one! :)

Random stuff and Darksiders3 announced!

Random stuffs for that late update (sorry) and some good things for the next updates ;)

We all know that Joe nearly never does any commission in particular during conventions.
But in some rare occasions he does some exceptions.

So here are a few of them (probably the best ones) Joe did over the years:
You are already probably aware of it but and epic event occurred this month (On the 2nd of May to be precise)
After so many years Darksiders 3 has officially been announced by Gunfire Games and THQ Nordic.

If you want to know more about it, IGN did many coverages/updates throughout of this month:

But you probably have the question: is Joe Madureira involved in Darksiders3!?
Well as of now it has been officially said that Joe Madureira wasn’t involved in the game.
But, in a recent AMA (see link above), Gunfire Games kept some doubts about it: "While we are close with Joe and he works also with THQ Nordic on a project we can’t confirm anything here."
And that being said, Joe Madureira was contacted to create some brand new sketches of the new Horseman: Fury the rider of the black horse!

OK let’s stop the blabla here are the sketches:
Note: I decided not to include officially those sketches to the site (index page) because I’m expecting to see some better quality versions sooner or later ;)

Now something else related to Battle Chasers NightWar:
As you may know, The Alpha began the 17 Of April.

For that occasion Joe revealed 2 burst arts of the game:
Also a little bit later Airship Syndicate revealed a new element of the game:

the "Thunderdome" arena with a bunch of new wallpapers:
And to celebrate the release of the Alpha I have something great to show!
Many of you just like me were probably waiting for the official Battle Chasers NightWar key art colored by Johannes Helgeson to be released in HD (like the other version colored by Grace Liu)

Well... I was able to find it on the internet! here it is:
Note: this is an update of the previous version from 1920 x 1045px to 4000 x 2185px!

And now to wrap up that update of May I'm very pleased to announced that I’ve recently received the contribution of multiple VIP!
They provided me with some new pieces of art and some better quality versions of those already present on the website!

Inhuman #3

So happy to add those pages of the Inhuman #3 comic that Joe Madureira did in 2014.
The reason is simple, I think the cover is one among the best Joe did (That's why it's in the banner of the site ;))
Both Joe and Marte Gracia (colors) did an amazing job on that comic and that cover.
The way Dante/Inferno draws attention is fantastic (Colors + pose & face expression)

Uncanny X-Men #312

Let's go back to the roots of Joe MAdureira!
The comic Uncanny X-Men #312 was the first of a very long series (24 comics).
That series wasn't of course the first work of Joe but was probably the experience that made him become so famous as a comic penciler.

As of today, it's very difficult to find some good quality scans of the ink or even rarer pencil versions of those pages. So I apologize in advance if the quality of those I found isn't always good.
And again, if you have any better versions, I would be very pleased to add them to the site! ;)

Ryan Stefanelli shared on twitter "how to fix a wine stain on your desk: have a comic legend nearby to mock you."
I found that one excellent! Plus, not only that fix gives a nice touch to that desk but I think it has probably increased its value a lot! :)
And I like that wise comment from Joe: "Drink responsibly!" ;)

To finish, just like in the last 2 updates I have a new video to share! Chris Brooks (Technical Director at Airship Syndicate) and Anna Maree presented a pre-alpha version of Battle Chasers NightWar at Pax East 2017 (12 March 2017).
You can discover many aspects and mechanisms of the game as well as some brand new pieces of art by Joe Madureira!

For the information the Alpha of Battle Chasers NightWar has been announced for April 17th in the Kickstarter update of March! Save the date! ;)
The Alpha access will be given to all the those that backed the project at the "Personal Edition" pledge level and above.
And if you missed that opportunity during the Kickstarter campaign you can still pre-order a "Personal Edition" on the official Battle Chasers store.

1st anniversary!

Hey! I know this month update is a little bit late but that's because it's a special day today!
Yes! Today JoeMadArt.com celebrates his first year anniversary! :)
Even if the website hasn't evolved that much during that first year I'm very happy by what it has become.
The number of visits keeps growing month after month and it's very grateful!
With that update, JoeMadArt.com contains about 340 unique illustrations of Joe Madureira and more than 500 images!

And for this month...

Happy new year! (Easy title again ;))

Happy new year!
Let's start this new year strong with many pages (colors + pencil versions) of the Savage Wolverine #6 comic that Joe did in 2013!

That update completes the set of pages of that comic:
I'm very happy and excited by this new year because Battle Chasers NightWar is just around the corner!
Joe recently revealed that the game is planned to be released in July of this year!
And for the backers that pledged enough during the Kickstarter campaign, the alpha should arrive in February or March!
Speaking about Battle Chasers the "December Battle Chasers: Nightwar Update!" by Airship Syndicate revealed 2 new characters in the lore!

Find below the arts (Good resolution) of the Beastmaster(mistress) and the tavern keeper Dogan:
I also added a new unofficial coloured version of an NYCC 2013 Battle Chasers print.
The famous Markovah Taduran (The one that colored multiple gorgeous Red Monika prints in 2012/2013) decided to color that old print.
The result is beautiful (See the "Other" version)!
In addition to those pieces of arts, I decided to create a Youtube Channel for JoeMadArt.com.
I decided to do that because I wanted to find a place where I could collect some videos of Joe Madureira (obviously ;)).
I will try to gather as many videos as possible as long as I have the agreement of the author to do so or if there is no copyright on them...
And who knows, I may be able to create my own exclusive videos from time to time!
